Preventive, Promotive & Rehabilitative Function of The Ministry of Health

Dear Followers,

Dearest friends, followers and all you who have concerned yourselves enough to check my blog out… I want to apologize for my silence during the week and to break this silence; I have posted three different post that I believe you will enjoy reading!
In this post, I examine the function of the ministry of health in the preventive and rehabilitative health of the people of the state. Since Knowledge they say is power and I am writing this so that the people of Gombe state will know what they are to expect from their government and in so doing, they will be able to challenge the government if it fails in their duties to them.
The administration of Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo recognizes the importance of the preventive, promotive & rehabilitative components of health care. Therefore, the Gombe State Ministry of Health provides all the required services for the preventive, promotive and rehabilitative health through its infrastructure to the fullest extent possible.

We Help you Function at Your Best

The Ministry of Health, Gombe regularly monitors the incidence and prevalence of all communicable diseases through its epidemiological & disease surveillance directorate, and notifies the concerned national and international authorities, and takes necessary preventive action. An example of the ministry’s efficiency in carrying out this duty is in the way it handled the discovery of the traits of lasser fever in the Federal Medical Centre Gombe.

High risk groups such as pregnant mothers and children under the age of five are given necessary immunization (against vaccine-preventable diseases) and nutrition supplements. Reproductive health care (ANC, PNC) and birth spacing services are given to all pregnant mothers / women in reproductive age group. Special programmes are conducted to fight serious communicable diseases such as leprosy, tuberculosis, poliomyelitis, neonatal tetanus and malaria etc.

Taking note of the rapid economic and social development in the Nigeria, and being concerned that this may lead to unhealthy life-styles leading to the emergence of new health problems, special program on non-communicable diseases have been organized to fight problems such as obesity, cardiovascular disorders and diabetes. The Honorable commissioner of Health, Dr. Ishaya K.B. had been researching and sponsoring program to address diabetes, hypertension, cardio-vascular diseases and other diseases that may arise from unhealthy lifestyles even before coming to office. He was involved in the researching and creation of the program which resulted to the book titled “The 90days path to total wellness” by Dubem Mordi Jnr.

Choose Health: The 90days Path to Total Wellness!

The program has been organized to inform and educate the people so that they share a responsibility in preserving good health by adopting healthy life-styles and food habits.

Furthermore, the Gombe State Ministry of Health also promotes good health through its health education campaign and school health services. Investigative support services are provided at the institutional level, as well as a support to public health activities. Medical fitness certificates are issued to all current / prospective employees based on laboratory / other investigative services such as radiography, CT scan /MRI etc. The Ministry of Health also provides physiotherapy and rehabilitation services as an essential component of the State’s health care services.

The Ministry’s physiotherapy and rehabilitation services are generally directed toward preventing disability, relieving pain, developing, improving or restoring function and contributing to the health of the people of Gombe State. The services of qualified physiotherapists and a few other professionals such as occupational therapist and orthotics/ prosthetics are available in the ministry’s hospitals.
